LO4 Group Screening and Feedback

We asked the groups opinions of the film. They said they enjoyed the film, and thought it was edited well. They thought the camera work and quality was excellent. However we needed to take out some more wind hiss in some of the outdoor scenes.

Based on the feedback the group thought the film should be rated 15 and over due to their being some violence, frequent strong langauge and some sex references.

LO3 Offline Edit and Evidence of Editing

This is the offline edit for the first two scenes of the film, which we have decided to call "Case Scenario". The editing here follows the planned storyboards and scripts, and have included appropriate transitions between locations and dialogue exchanges.

Lo3 Rushes from Filming date 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mSm5z31nOU
The screenplay was followed accordingly as the actors followed all the dialogue written. This particular rush was the dialogue from Scene 6 (shown below). There were a few last-minute alterations and improvisations from both actors during the shoot however but the script as a whole was followed and still was fit for purpose for what the scene was trying to convey.

LO2 Rushes from filming date 1 Demonstrating Safe working practices and script following

This clip we recorded was not dark enough for the genre we were trying to portray, as a dark comedy has lower lighting to give a darker theme. We also decided we wanted to shoot it again because we wanted the actor to have a stronger voice to make him appear stronger.

These 2 rushes demonstrate the actors following the script as it matches up with the dialogue we wrote in the script. It also demonstrates safe working practises as the actors are in a safe environment and no one in the cast or crew were harmed when filming.

Lo1 Location Planning

For scene 5, we needed a bar to shoot the scene in which Eric Colton and his friend Mark are discussing Eric's new employee Sean. Our friend Lewis who works over at the Hotel told us we would probably be able to use their bar, so I got in contact with the hotel and spoke to one of the managers, Laura, who was happy for us to use the bar on Friday the 15th May. We will need to organise the actors which will be Connor and Alex, who agreed to star as Mark in the film.

LO1 Planning and Contacting Actors

For Monday 18th May, we will be filming scenes 10, 11 and 12 with the thug character, who will be played by Wilson Davies who acted in our film trailer last year as part of Unit 46. I messaged Wilson asking him if he was available this date to film the scenes which he was very up for.

As for locations, there needed to be a corner shop to film the scene in, so we asked the manager of the local Sheffield United Off License just down the road from my college if we could use the shop for filming purposes. I also mentioned it was a robbery scene with a bow and arrow in case the context would be a problem, but the manager was happy for us to do this as he has experienced students filming there previously.

LO2 Setting up Appropriate Equipment

We set up the appropriate equipment we needed to make the short film, which consisted of two Canon DSLR 650D cameras, a tripod and two shotgun Rode microphones.

We made sure all the settings and white balance were appropriate for what we needed to film by using the manual settings to increase ISO or AV settings. We made sure we matched the conventions of our genre of film by using a 25 frame rate per second and standard picture style.

We used one camera mounted on a tripod for panning and establishing shots and the other handheld for personal close-ups. The sound quality of the microphones was appropriate although often outdoors we would need to take out a muffler to reduce wind and background noise.

LO1 Recee Scene 1

Lo1 Casting

For Scene 2 in the script, we needed to find an actress to play the role of Kelly. We found it difficult to find an actress around the same age as Connor but luckily Connor recommended a friend of his Lucy to play this role. I got in contact with her and sent her the screenplay, she was also very up for being in the film.

LO1 Contacting Actors

To contact actors for our short film, we used the Starnow website and got in contact with Connor Young to play the protagonist of the film, Eric Colton. However I saw him on a train and spoke to him about the role which he was happy to do. He wanted to take part and star in the film so Will emailed him the script and treatment of the film:

He suggested one of his friends Chris Simpson for one of our roles as well. We now need to shoot scenes 1 and 2 on Friday the 17th April which I created the production schedule for. We will be filming in our college starring my teacher Mr Helliwell as Eric's boss and the scene where Sean and Eric meet for the first time on the street near Sheffield Live! studios.
